CIRCA - Late 1800s Victorian
Created during the time when Queen Victoria ruled over England, this charming brooch comes from England and dates to circa 1880-1890s. I personally found this sweet brooch while antique hunting in the beautiful English Cotswolds. The rhinestone encircled brooch features a finely detailed hand painted portrait sealed under beveled glass. The portrait is artist signed, F.S. (located near the bottom right frame edge and can be seen best under magnification. The back of the brooch retains the original pin bar, but at some point in antiquity the locking clasp was changed out, most likely to make the brooch more secure when worn. As this was purchased from a well known and respected estate dealer in England, most likely this lovely little brooch was a cherished family pieces worn, loved and adapted over its many years within the family. This would make a lovely addition to your jewelry collection and is easily an heirloom worthy piece of jewelry.

The rhinestones are brighter and more sparkly than my camera could catch but some of the rhinestones have mild to medium darkened areas, but all are original and in place. The back area of the brooch shows area where the original clasp lock was removed and a newer lock added, most likely around 1930-1940. The lock closes and locks as it should.
